About Me
I set up West Lakes Images to share some of my images from around Cumbria, the Lake District and the wider UK.
My photographic journey began in my early teens and I quickly developed a love for the hobby that continued to develop as I went to university, where I combined my love of photography with an interest in science, using my images to document scientific experiments.
After gaining my degree I moved to Cumbria, close to the Lake District National Park in the north-west of England, for a job in the nuclear industry and have been combining my passion for photography with my scientific career, providing corporate, product and event photography for clients within the nuclear industry. I have used my photography and graphic imaging skills to create marketing materials, brochures and scientific poster presentations and have had many published images in scientific journals and conferences..
In addition to my day job I have been taking photographs of this beautiful area and its wildlife for over 30 years as a hobby. The scenery here is so varied, from mountains and lakes to rivers, forests and coastline that there is always something new to discover and photograph.
In February 2019 I suffered a serious medical emergency that resulted in a long term convalescence meaning that I had to leave my job as a nuclear scientist and photographer in early 2020. This provided an opportunity for me to spend more time on my landscape and wildlife photography hobby, but was just at the same time that the UK started to enter lockdown due to COVID-19. I used this time to work on developing this website and compile a coffee table style book of the best of my images from around the Lake District.
Going forward I am using my newly found free time to continue to grow my photographic experience and portfolio. There is nothing better than capturing an image that truly conveys the beauty, ruggedness or character of a location or the personality of a wild animal.
A number of these landscape and wildlife images are available for purchase as unframed prints or downloads through this website. I decided against offering framed prints as the choice of frame is very personal but if you would like a particular setup I would be happy to help. The print sizes shown in the galleries are typical values but I am able to provide a quote for any specific size or media you would like. I use Loxley Colour to produce prints to order, so I am able to offer any of the media or finishes listed on their site at www.loxleycolour.com. Please contact me for pricing of specific requirements.
I have a wider variety of images available as rights managed images on various stock photography libraries.
“West Lakes Images has been born from a love of photography - there is nothing I like better than to get out and about with my camera”.
