The gleaming white paintwork of the East Cote lighthouse stands out against the blue of the sky and bright yellow of the gorse flowers.
East Cote lighthouse is located in the Victorian seaside resort of Silloth, West Cumbria. It was originally built in 1841 to guide ships between Port Carlisle and Annan on the Solway Firth. The 12m tall wooden tower was mounted onto a short track so that the light could be moved according to the position of the navigation channel which changes at times. The current lighthouse was rebuilt in 1997 to replicate its original style.
