Road to Illgill Head at Wasdale

The narrow road from Gosforth winds through a forested area which eventually opens to this stunning view of Illgill Head and Whin Rigg on the far side of the lake. The trees and grasses at the sides of the road take on an almost copper hue during the winter months and tend to glow in the low warm sunlight at this time of year.
The dry stone walls make the road feel narrower, hiding the view until you arrive at open heathland near to the lake. The winding country roads and walls and are typical of the Lake District.
