The Ravenglass estuary at high tide. The small village, where the rivers Mite, Esk and Irt meet before joining the Irish Sea, is located in the Lake District National Park.

The photograph was taken from the north side of the estuary on the salt marches at Saltcoats, looking across the water to the row of houses in the village. On the far left of the image is the slope of the tidal crossing/ford of the River Mite while above it, within the trees, you can make out the rooftops of the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway., a narrow gauge steam railway known locally as La'al Ratty.
