Grey Heron Watching for Fish
WD1752
A grey heron (Ardea cinerea) standing in the reeds at an ornamental pond just outside Whitehaven, West Cumbria. The bird is standing tall with its neck stretched to look for fish in the pond. The photograph was taken in late winter before the reeds and irises had started to grow back, making it easier to see the heron.
I often stop by here to watch a pair of swans and their cygnets and quite frequently see the heron but it is difficult to photograph without disturbing it.
